Refuse One-Use Campaign Strategy

Refuse One-Use
Campaign Strategy Proposal
By Priya Dhillon
Abstract
Our oceans are filled with more plastic than can be imagined. With an approximation of 268,940 tonnes (Australian Marine Conservation Society 2018) of plastic floating in our waters. Each day even more is being added to it with an anticipation of there being more plastic than marine life by 2050 (Australian Marine Conservation Society 2018). Plastic itself takes up from 10 to 1000 years to decompose (The Balance Small Business 2018).

Marine creatures are constantly either getting tangled up or ingesting the plastic resulting in them being starved or suffocated. This is killing our marine life and environment at an alarming rate and action needs to be taken to encourage the population to reduce their plastic usage and save our environment.

The intention of this proposed campaign is to inform people of the harm caused by single-use plastics. It is also a call to action for these people to make a change in their lifestyles and for them to encourage others to follow suit. This will be achieved through the use of various channels and platforms including:

Print media: through the use of posters, tote bags and reusable bottles
Digital media: by having a standalone campaign website and an animation
Social media: through building a presence on Instagram
